Myllykoski BigWater Festival & IceBreak 2015

The traditional mid April racing weekend in Helsinki brought some 30 kayakers together to fight for the glory in the international competitions - as well as the Finnish boater cross championships. "Myllykoski BigWater" down river race on Saturday, and "IceBreak" boater cross at Vanhankaupunginkoski on Sunday didn't quite provide the highest possible water levels, but the fun was still on. The Russians were the strongest, but also PoksAdventure team athletes got some decent runs, taking two spots on the podium during the weekend.

IceBreak race course was probably better than ever! Because of several equally fast (but not equally easy!) line options you could often get to the next round despite of being the last of the line at the first hole shown in the photo.

New bikes with different colours

Some new bikes have been purchased for the team. Perfect, colour and everything..! We went for a test drive to Halssila, a fairly high hill (when speaking of this part of Finland anyway) nearby Jyväskylä with lots of trail options. Well yes, we also had one bike with us that wasn`t orange. At the end of the day evererybody seemed to be satisfied, though.

Enskalenkki Pikkukosken poluilla

Aurinkoisena huhtikuun maanantaina kokoonnuimme Föhrin Timon kanssa Vantaanjoen Pikkukosken parkkikselle, josta Timon opastama ajelimme viime vuonna alueella järjestetyn enskakisan polkuja. Reilu parituntinen vierähti nopeasti vauhdikkailla ja itselle uusilla pätkillä. Löytyipä taas yksi alue Hesasta lisää minne pitää lenkkejä suunnata. Alueelta löytyy kallioiden ja juurakoiden lisäksi myös hyppytreenipaikka. Alla olevat kuvat kertoo yleiskatsauksen mitä Pikkukoskelta löytyy.

Actionia Mustijoen Meijerikoskella

Päivä aloitettiin Vanhiksella ja parin myslipatukan jälkeen suuntasimme autot kohti Pornaista ja Mustijoen Meijerikoskea. Virtaama näytti 22 kuutiota Vekkosken mittarissa ja kosken melottavuus oli käytävä toteamassa paikan päällä. Perillä odotti ihan ok näköinen koski, jonka aloitus droppi oli mainio paikka treenata boofaamista ja helpon kantamisen ansiosta otimmekin useita laskuja dropissa. Alla boofaus näytteet.

Kosken toisen dropin niskalla oleva pohjapato ei ollut näin vähällä vedellä kierrettävissä ja itse möläys oli muutenkin aika rosoisen näköinen. Sen pystyi laskemaan jotenkin, kun toinen avusti kajakin oikealle linjalle pohjapadon jälkeen.

 Viimeinen osio "mini kanjoni" oli hyvin melottavissa ja tarjosi varsin vivahteikasta menoa.

Melonnan jälkeen todettiin, että tämä koski tarjoaa varsin hyvää creekkiä ja optimaalisin virtaama kaikkien osioiden melontaan on 25 - 30 kuutiota. 

Spring opening 2015

This is how the kayak season should be started! Two weeks raining made the mighty Vantaa river flood in beautiful(?) chocolate colour. Vanhankaupunginkoski is a perfect park'n'huck destination in a city! And a good class IV rapid - really looking for the boater cross competition next Sunday! (iceBreak 2015)
